Alec asked us to send him a posed character render in the scene. I composited a staged scene with the witch and her cat. I also wanted the title of our short to be in the render so I moved all of the “title potions” into the scene and posed the characters near the bookcase. The cauldron is also visible in the background. I used a stock photo of a person holding a cat as a reference.
I also rendered the cauldron smoke separately using Arnold, as Redshift does not render Maya fluids. I added an extra light in front of the characters to lighten up the scene. It took 38 minutes to render.
